All-Day Cafe Great White to Open in August

Great White, an all-day cafe, is planning to open at the end of August. The construction barricades have been taken down, though there’s still more work to be done to finish out the front facade. We took this photo earlier this week.

At long last, Great White is planning to open at the end of August. Owner Sam Trude told the Buzz it’s been a long two years in the making, but said he’s very excited the latest new eatery on Larchmont will open soon. As we reported in March, Larchmont will be the second location for the Venice Beach restaurant, named for the great white shark.

We stopped by earlier this week, snapped some photos of the outside, and snuck a peek inside at the extensive renovation of the former Prado, then Cafe Parisienne, space at 244 N. Larchmont Blvd.  The space is currently being transformed into a stonewashed, casual space with a beach vibe, styled after the restaurant’s other location in Venice Beach.

“We are an old fashioned, all-day cafe and are very excited to be on Larchmont,” Trude told the Buzz. “Our specialty is breakfast. We started three years ago with coffee and have expanded our menu. We selected this location because we thought we could offer something different to the community.”

Trude said the menu will be very similar to the Venice cafe, which offers healthy as well as comfort options. Trude told us the most popular item is the breakfast burrito. We also heard there’s an amazing smash burger…and pizza, too!

Trude and his partner Sam Cooper have created a unique casual space in Venice and are planning to do the same for Larchmont, but with styling to differentiate each space…starting with a mural designed just for Larchmont and featured in this post on the restaurant’s Instagram feed. We can’t wait to see it

  1. I just recently learned and purchased your book of Images of America LARCHMONT.
Thank you so much for including my parents, Marjorie and Frank W Moore on page 78. My parents purchased Larchmont Hardware from my grandparents, James E. and June Moore. I believe the sale to Russ was 1984 because my father would not have been eligible for Social Security that year, that was a major discussion as well as whether he should wait to be on Medicare. At least that was my memory. Minor detail.

    • Thanks so much for letting me know. I will make sure to add that to my photo archive so we can update the book if we ever get to reprint it. I love getting information on the history of Larchmont. I’m wondering if you might have any other photos of the store, we’d love to share that with Buzz readers.
