City Council Campaigns Come to Larchmont

Labor Day is the traditional start of campaigning for the November election. While the national news media is focused on the presidential election this November, it’s our job in the local news to make sure you are aware of the important local races that deserve your attention. Specifically, the CD4 City Council run-off race, in which current Councilmember David Ryu is running for re-election against newcomer challenger Nithya Raman, who beat out hopeful Sarah Kate Levy in the March primary.

In the next two weeks, LA County voting officials are set to mail some 4 million absentee ballots to local residents, so it’s timely that visitors to the Sunday Larchmont Farmers Market found representatives there yesterday from both campaigns.

Volunteers from Ryu’s re-election campaign were at one end of the market and volunteers from challenger Raman were stationed at the other end. Seasoned local activists Moira Kelly and Helen Eigenberg were staffing the Ryu table, both are active with the Windsor Square grassroots action group, Hang Out Do Good, formed in 2016.

On the other end of the market, Larchmont Village resident Zoe Zoldan and her friends Maria Thomas, Chira and Simona Zangari were working the table for Nithya Raman. Zoldan told the Buzz she got involved in Raman’s campaign because she wanted to see change at City Hall, a familiar theme of Raman’s campaign.

If you’re still considering who to vote for on November 3, this is the time to jump in and start learning about the candidates.  We’re pretty sure their representatives will be quite visible in the neighborhood for the next few weeks!
