“Building the Future – It Starts with Us” is the theme of the 2015 Congress of Neighborhoods, sponsored by Los Angeles’ 96 certified Neighborhood Councils, including our own Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council.  The annual Congress will be held this Saturday, September 26, from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at City Hall.
The event offers information and workshops for anyone interested in our local neighborhoods and civic engagement, from seasoned neighborhood activists to newly elected NC board members…and members of the general public who would like to learn more about our city and how it works. Among more than 40 workshops available, topics will include:
- Political proficiency: learn how to lobby; run a meeting; establish a credible reputation;
or follow proper parliamentary procedure - Basics for an efficient & effective NC including election outreach; giving or getting funding; creating successful committees; negotiating with developers; and writing community impact statements
- Updates & overviews on vital topics such as affordable housing, public works; code enforcement; and public safety
- Increasing engagement with practical classes on social media; PR writing; fostering community partnerships; and building media relationships.
