Saturday’s always a great day for some leisurely antique shopping, so we were thrilled to see that five of the 13 antique shops named in TimeOutLosAngeles’ list of Best Antique Stores in LAÂ a few days ago are in our general neighborhood.
In fact, number one on the list is JF Chen Antiques, 1000 N. Highland, run by Windsor Square resident Joel Chen, and written about recently by Buzz co-publisher Patty Lombard in Modern magazine. Chen’s store, housed in a 30,000 square foot, 1950s concrete bank vault (!), is described by Time Out as “amalgamation of 17th century baroque limestone figures, 1930s French Art Deco tables, late 19th century chandeliers, mid-century modern chairs and more (much, much more).”
Also on TimeOut’s list:
#3 – Galerie Half, 6911 Melrose Ave. (between Orange and Sycamore), which specializes in items with a “homey vibe.”
#6 – Little Paris, 612 S. La Brea, selling European treasures dating back to the 1700s.
#10 – Fat Chance, 162 N. La Brea, purveyors of mid-century items with “a certain amount of flare.”
#11 – Liz’s Antique Hardware, 453 S. La Brea, “equal parts fine art gallery and equal parts antique haven.”
So if you’re looking for that perfect piece of furniture or some charming tchotchkes, it looks like a great day for a little local foraging.
