Food has become just about as wacky as one can imagine – and Frankenfood – a new competition television series set to debut June 22nd is offering some pretty crazy concoctions at its Frankenfood Truck this week in our neighborhood.

On Tuesday the Frankenfood truck was parked in front of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) for the lunch hour, serving up free small plates like “Guinness Chocolate Coated Pork Belly” (yes, pork belly coated in beer and chocolate, cayenne and paprika) or the “Espresso Crusted Chicken Taco” (burned tortilla with kimchi, marshmallow wasabi and of course some chicken.) The craze to combine familiar ingredients together in strange combos has been seen in food trucks across LA, but Frankenfood seems to be taking it to the next level.
In the upcoming Frankfood series, to air Sundays on Spike TV, chefs Josh Capon and Tony Luke Jr. will host a “competition to find America’s next great food creations that are either incredible…or inedible.” They’ll be looking cross-country for inventive amateur chefs who could win the $10,000 prize and create a menu item for a restaurant in their home town.
In the “Tweet to Eat” program rolled out by Roaming Hunger (for all things food truck) on our LA streets this week, the truck is offering two free sample dishes to anyone who shares a photo, captures a selfie, or tweets their experience at the Frankenfood Truck. The truck and the tweets are to build buzz for the Frankenfood series, and are being run simultaneously this week in cities across the U.S. including New York, Boston, Atlanta, Austin, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago and Washington DC.
