LA Animal Services Offering Free Spay/Neuter Gift Certificates for Cats

To help keep our local cat companions healthy and happy, the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services is offering free gift certificates for feline spay/neuter services to all city residents, regardless of income level, during the month of May.

When announcing the offer, the Department said it is “historically inundated with 8,000 to 9,000 cats and kittens every year, often starting in April-May,” and this year, it is already starting to see an increase in cat and kitten impounds citywide.

To receive a free spay/neuter certificate, and to locate participating veterinary clinics where they can be redeemed, visit…or any LA City Animal Services Center (see to find the one closest to you).

Applicants must be City of Los Angeles residents, 18 years of age or older. Each household is eligible for certificates for up to three cats. Also, please note that the free surgeries are for companion cats only; feral and stray animals are excluded. Once a free certificate is issued, it must be redeemed at a participating veterinary hospital within 10 days.

By spaying or neutering your cat or kitten, you are helping LA Animal Services move one step closer to ending the Los Angeles community’s pet overpopulation, and helping the department to place more animals in permanent.
