City Launches New Volunteering Website

Do you or your teens have some time on your hands this summer?  If so, the City of Los Angeles has a new way to help you fill it – a new website called VolunteerLA, which helps connect potential volunteers with opportunities for community service.  According to the site, its mission is simple:  “VolunteerLA connects Angelenos to meaningful service opportunities that create positive change in our communities and build a stronger city.”

The website lists specific volunteer opportunities and events coming up with familiar non-profit organizations like Food Forward, Alexandria House and People Assisting the Homeless (PATH).  It also lists various city agencies, like the Los Angeles Public Library, the Department of Recreation and Parks, and LA Animal Services, which run their own volunteer programs and need helpers, too.

Finally, it’s worth noting that, in many respects, VolunteerLA is a lot like the Big Sunday organization, located in our neighborhood for many years (its Summer List of volunteer opportunities is also available now)…so it’s no surprise to see that organization listed among the city’s partner organizations in the VolunteerLA effort.

So if you know someone looking to have a good time while doing some good this summer, you now have one more good source for connections.
