The City and County of Los Angeles are participating in Purposeful Aging Los Angeles, an “Age-Friendly Initiative” launched in 2016 to prepare the Los Angeles region for a rapidly aging population. (According to the initiative, one in five Americans will be age 65 or older by 2030…and the older adult population in the Los Angeles region is expected to almost double – from 1.1 million to 2.1 million – between 2010 and 2030.) The effort unites public and private leadership, resources, ideas and strategies to improve the lives of older adults, and to create age-friendly communities for all Angelenos. It’s a partnership of The County of Los Angeles Community and Senior Services (CSS), the City of Los Angeles Department of Aging, AARP, the Milken Institute Center for the Future of Aging, the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and the UCLA Los Angeles Academic Partnership for Research in Aging.

The multi-year program is still in its early stages, identifying issues and opinions on aging that will be most important to our area.  A major part of the research is a city-wide survey on aging, which is now open through the month of May, for all residents of Los Angeles County over the age of 18.  The survey takes less than 20 minutes to complete, and will help the city and county plan for the needs of older adults both now and in future generations.  Participation is voluntary and confidential…but if you have a few minutes to spare, please fill it out.
