Sign-ups for the spring season of Wilshire Girls Softball are in full swing for the season that begins February 1, 2014. The league has four divisions: under 8, under 10, under 12 and under 14.
This year the league will become the “little sister league” to UCLA Softball, a national winner in Women’s NCAA softball. The UCLA-Wilshire softball partnership will kick off in late January with a full day clinic for the entire Wilshire league, hosted by UCLA’s Head Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez, assistant coaches Lisa Fernandez (3-time Gold Medal Olympian). Kirk Walker, and members of the UCLA Softball team.
Wilshire players will learn the mechanics of offense and defense, pitching and catching, mental training, and more, and get an opportunity to see a hitting demonstration by the Bruins. Wilshire girls will have the opportunity to meet the UCLA players and start little sister/big sister relationships that will carry throughout the entire season.
- Practices occur during the week with games every Saturday, some games on Friday evening for the older divisions;
- Registration is $100-185 for the season, with scholarship monies available (see their website);
- An All-Stars season for top players in each age group will occur at end of season with tournaments all over Southern California.
- Practices and games are held at Lemon Grove and Queen Anne parks, both only minutes from the greater Wilshire/Hancock Park area.
