Today is the day of the big Kobe Bryant memorial in downtown Los Angeles. With tickets to the event fairly limited though, many fans won’t be able to attend in person…and even if you do watch the proceedings on TV (see the link above for one live stream), you may also be looking for other ways to remember the late basketball icon, who died in a helicopter crash on January 26 with his daughter Gianna and seven other people.
If so, consider seeking out some of the many memorial murals that have popped up around town – including several in our general area – in the last few weeks. Finding them isn’t hard, and a new website – kobemural.com – makes it even easier. The website claims to include the addresses and photos of all the Kobe Bryant murals, with an interactive map, linked to below, that pinpoints locations and provides directions. Just click on any of the purple dots (you can zoom in for more precise clicking) to learn more about any of the murals.
If you’d like to see even more photos, there’s also a good, affiliated KobeMural Instagram account, which includes extensive images, handily grouped by geographic area. (And it links back to the KobeMural website, to make it easier to find any of the murals you might like to see in person.)
Finally, even more great mural photos are available in a New York Times story from a couple of days ago.
Kobe Bryant was clearly Los Angeles royalty…and the loss felt in the city’s heart is now showing up on its walls, all around town.
