Back by popular demand! See’s Candies is opening a permanent location at The Grove on Saturday, February 2nd at 10am. The shop will be adjacent to The Whisper Restaurant on Bow Street.
You might remember that See’s had a temporary location just east of the Pacific Theaters at The Grove two years ago. The “pop up” See’s was so successful that it was a matter of time – and an open space suitable for the candy shop – before they moved in permanently.
See’s opened their original candy kitchen and store at 135 North Western Avenue in 1921. Charles See moved to Los Angeles from Canada and chose the Western location as the perfect spot from which to launch what would become a candy empire. He was joined in the project by his wife Florence and his mother Mary See – whose image has stood as a symbol for the company’s commitment to homemade quality and friendly service. The original Western site is currently home to Tom N Toms Coffee…there was a failed attempt to secure historical status for the building back in 2009.
The current Los Angeles factory for See’s opened in 1946 and is located on La Cienega.
