Consul General of Mexico Carlos Sada presents “Wings of Mexico” to Mayor Eric Garcetti

Last week the Consul General of Mexico (and Fremont Place resident), Carlos Sada presented a stunning bronze sculpture of angel wings by Mexican Sculptor Jorge Marín to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti at a ceremony downtown.

Sada told the Buzz yesterday that “We are very proud that our sister city of Los Angeles is now the host of this inspiring work by Mexican Sculptor Jorge Marín, known as the “Wings of Mexico” (“Las Alas de México”).”

“This beautiful sculpture was gifted by the authorities of Mexico City as a symbol of friendship, cooperation and understanding between the two parts,” he said. “Hence, this work of art represents another bridge between Mexico and Los Angeles, as well as with the United States.”

According to LAist, “the tentative plan is to permanently place the wings at City Hall, at the northwest corner of First and Los Angeles streets. However, Cultural Affairs Department General Manager Danielle Brazell said that location is not definite yet, though the official location will likely be in the Civic Center area of the city.”

Wherever it’s located, we suspect “Wings of Mexico” is likely to become a new favorite place for “selfies”…if this one of City Council member José Huizar is any indication.
