Bohemian global chic, is one way of describing the assortment of unique items now offered at Sage Lifestyle at 128 1/2 N. Larchmont Boulevard. The eclectic mix includes everything from hand-made fragrances to one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, pillows with kissing donkeys and elegant Moroccan furniture.
“I love to offer people a piece of my aesthetic,” owner Sage Machado told the Larchmont Buzz earlier this week. “I’ve been doing this for 20 years – offering people a bohemian, global-chic lifestyle – way before it became trendy.” Machado has a two-pronged business that includes website sales of her fragrance, jewelry and candle line all over the world, as well as her bricks and mortar store here on Larchmont Boulevard.
“I had a shop on Beverly and Martel for many years,” she shared. “When this location came up on Larchmont, my own neighborhood, I had to take it.” The Sage Lifestyle boutique opened next to Chevalier’s Books in October, after the vintage clothing store Simply Vintageous closed shop.
Machado’s jewelry, made with sterling silver and 14 karat gold, often utilizes unique “baubles” and gem stones she has collected. Her collection of lamps, furniture, mirrors, and small accessories come from every corner of the globe including Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Â Prices range from $10 to $5,000, offering everything from stocking stuffers to fine gifts. She’s particularly proud of her line of roll-on perfume oils, many named after gemstones, that come dressed up in exquisite paper cylinders made with gorgeous Japanese-inspired papers.
“I’ve always been a destination store, that people hear about and make an effort to come find me even when I was on the second floor hidden from view,” she said. Â “This Larchmont location is really great – there’s a lot of foot traffic and I get to see so many people I know.” Machado has a loyal following of celebrities, but is a local gal herself. She lives on Gramercy Place with her two young daughters who attend Hollywood School House on North Highland.
