Earlier this week, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti relaxed restrictions on business closures, allowing some retail businesses to reopen by offering online or phone orders and curbside pick-up ONLY. The order permitted florists, toy stores, music stores, bookstores, clothing stores and sporting goods stores to offer curbside pick-up.
The order was timed to help local florists sell for Mother’s Day, this Sunday. But floral materials are hard to come by. Larchmont Village Florist isn’t able to handle any more orders, manager Gina Kim told the Buzz. Lyn Hall at Floret Floral was concerned she might not be able to fill all her orders too. Rita Azar of Rita Flora is offering online orders through her website. But she said she can’t be more specific because she won’t know the inventory until it comes.
“I will have plenty of roses in mommy colors pinks and purple,” said Azar.
Once the Mother’s Day holiday is over, supplies are likely to be replenished, so you might think about getting flowers next week and supporting our local florists.
As for our other Larchmont Blvd. stores, we reported earlier this week many retailers see the new rules as a good start, but they’d rather invite shoppers into their stores. Everyone is scrambling to stay in business while being safe and complying with the law.

Landis Labyrinth Toys. is testing the waters trying to reopen Saturday. “I am going to open my shop tomorrow from 12-5 for curbside pick up and see how business goes before I know what to do again,” Devony Wolfus told the Buzz today.
Chevalier’s Books will open for curbside pick up on May 15. “For everyone’s safety we’re not physically opening the bookstore for now,” staff at Chevalier’s Books told the Buzz. “Meanwhile we’re very grateful to everyone who’s ordering via bookshop.org from our website. Also we’re taking orders by phone or email. If we have the book in stock we can deliver to zip codes 90004, 90020 and 90038.”
Buck Mason told us they would also be opening on May 15 with curbside pickup service.
“This is a new feature that will also allow online orders to be picked up at the store,” co-founder Sasha Koehn told the Buzz. “We’ll be putting an extra emphasis on offering our face masks to our customers at this time as well.”
The company has produced over shifted their production to making non-medical facial coverings to slow the spread of COVID-19. To date, they have produced over 470,000 non-medical masks.
Landis Stationery and Gifts and Village Heights are connecting with customers on social media and making local deliveries.
International brand Diptyque told us they don’t have a tentative date to reopen for curbside pick-up, but they are working on a pilot project with a store in Chicago. LA-Based Trina Turk told us they would keep us posted on their reopening plans. Their Larchmont store remains closed for now but customers can shop their website.
