Mozza’s Molina Wins Best Chef Pacific Region

It’s confirmed – we have one of the nation’s top chefs performing nightly on the corner of Highland and Melrose.

The James Beard Foundation, known for their Oscar-like annual awards to masters of the culinary world, awarded Chef Matt Molina of Osteria Mozza the Best Chef Pacific region on Monday, May 7th. Molina, the young sweet-faced auteur of Italian rustic dishes for Mozza, was raised professionally under the guidance of Chef Nancy Silverton (of Campanille and La Brea Bakery fame). A native Angeleno of Latin heritage, Molina was nominated for a Beard award once before, in 2010, but this time was the charm.

For foodies in the crowd, the full list of winners can be found on the James Beard Foundation website. The awards honor all aspects of the food industry including chefs, restaurants, cookbooks, restaurant designers and food journalists. It’s interesting to see how Chicago has garnered so many awards this year, giving New York a run for its money as gastronomical capital of the U.S., and leaving LA in the dust.
