A brood of hens was spotted yesterday in the 500 block of Wilcox Avenue in Hancock Park by Wilshire Park resident Julie Stromberg, who was driving her boys home from school. Stromberg noticed another neighbor starring quite perplexed at the site of chickens seemingly out for a stroll unattended.
Concerned about the well being of the lovely hens, and completely fascinated, Stromberg and her young boys insisted on getting out of the car for a closer look. Stromberg quickly texted a photo to Hancock Park Homeowners Association president Cindy Chvatal-Keane, who in turn sent out an email alert to neighbors. Chvatal-Keane was astonished to quickly get back dozens of replies. Apparently, the chickens are quite well known in the neighborhood and were quickly reunited with their keepers.
“This is the beauty of the neighborhood watch system. These chickens were identified instantly!” Chvatal-Keane told the Buzz.
Stromberg was thrilled to hear the chickens were safely back in their coop and thanked the efforts of the neighborhood watch system.
“It’s one of the most important things we can do in our neighborhoods,” Stromberg told the Buzz. “It brings the community together.”
