Holiday Clean-Up Reminders from LA Sanitation

Photos from the LA Department of Sanitation.

After a busy month or so (longer if you add in Thanksgiving), the big year-end holiday season is finally past, and now many of us are in clean-up mode.  To help with that, the LA Department of Sanitation has provided some handy tips:

👉 Save Our Sewers
Fats, oils, and grease should be poured into a sealed jar and placed in the trash bin or taken to a SAFE Center. Think twice about using hot water to wash down grease or oil into your drain! Fats, oils, and grease could clog and damage your drainage system and sewer pipes. For more information on how you can prevent grease blockage and sewage spills, see http://bit.ly/FatsOilsG 👈

👉 Holiday Recycling
Flattened wrapping paper, cards, and cardboard boxes can all go in the recycling bin. Bows, ribbons, and tinsel cannot be recycled. For homes serviced by LASAN, we are accepting extra cardboard that doesn’t fit in the blue bin. Please break down your boxes, then cut and tie into 4×4 bundles weighing no more than 30 pounds. Please place the bundles next to your blue bin on your collection day, facing the street so our drivers can see them. 👈

👉 Holiday Collection Schedule
Bin collection services for trash/organics/recycling will be postponed by one calendar day this week, starting Wednesday, for the New Year’s holiday. This means Wednesday collection happens Thursday. Thursday’s collection will move to Friday, and Friday collection happens Saturday.  For more information, call LA Sanitation’s 24-hour Customer Care Center at 📞 800-773-2489 or see lacitysan.org/holidayschedule 👈

👉 Recycle Your Christmas Tree🎄♻️
If you have an authentic tree: remove all the decorations, cut the tree down to fit inside your green bin, and place the bin curbside on collection day. If the tree is too big for the bin, just place it beside the bin on collection day. Or you can take it to a city drop off location.  For more information, see lacitysan.org/treerecycle 👈
