A trio of  rotting zombies shuffle down a darkened LA street, break into parked cars and make off with the goods left inside.
Just another night on Los Angeles streets where some 400 cars are burglarized every week. According to the LAPD, there were more than 21,000 auto break-ins so far this year and many of these thefts could have been avoided if the public would heed the message: Lock it – Hide it – Keep it.
Enter the LAPD’s Northeast Division (Los Feliz, Silverlake, Highland Park.) They recently released a very campy, totally funny film “Invasion of the Zombie Bandits” to get across the message. Â Zombies, as in the Walking Dead, walk our streets and break into our cars. It’s so awkwardly bad it’s really good – and scores big points for being produced in-house by members of the LAPD force who wrote, produced and star in the film.
Special kudos go to Captain Jeffrey Bert of the Northeast Division for allowing his team to spoof both television police procedurals and the undead zombie world. Â The video already has 57,000 views on YouTube, taking the boring public service announcement to a whole new level.
Take a look, and while the busy holiday shopping season is in full swing, remember to take extra care to secure your  home and car. If you don’t, those Zombies might just get your stuff.
The trash bin poachers are suspect, as they prowl the streets night before trash pick up. So glad to have moved out of Hollywood. We don’t even lock our garages here. (somewhere out side of LA but close enough for Zombies to stumble upon)
