Yesterday around 2:30 p.m., a car racing to avoid LAPD officers crashed into a house at the corner of Norton Avenue and 2nd Street. Fortunately, no one was injured in the house and there was no damage to the historic craftsman home.
“Yesterday afternoon I was working in my office when I heard screeching tires…which, sadly, is not uncommon in this intersection and sirens,” homeowner Barry Greenberg told the Buzz this morning. “I looked out the window and saw a the car jump the curb and drive up into my yard. A police car was right behind. The driver jumped out of the car, ran up the steps towards our front door and jumped over the railing onto the 2nd St. sidewalk with officers in pursuit. I’m told the suspect went into our backyard and jumped over the wall into our neighbor’s yard (Irving & 2nd) where he was apprehended.”
ABC News reported the driver had been stopped by police in connection with a criminal investigation, but then jumped back into his car, driving at top speed away from police. The car came speeding down Norton, heading south and attempted to turn on 2nd street but ended up in the front yard. The driver jumped out the car and was apprehended by police shortly thereafter. According to ABC News, the suspect was wanted for two attempted murders.
