The space formerly home to Mexican restaurant/bar Pueblo Viejo on Melrose has been under construction over the past few months. According to EaterLA, the space is the undertaking of Osteria Mamma owner Filippo Cortivo and will be open in approximately a month.
We contacted Cortivo to get more details and he shared his excitement for the new space and what it means for the block overall. The venture is a joint partnership with Max Mamikunian & Marko Shafer from Hotel Cafe (on Cahuenga). They believed in the location and asked for Cortivo’s help in developing the project. Cortivo is committed to making it a great place for the area.
Although they are not ready to share a lot of details, Cortivo confirmed that they will serve food. “Small plates, but very nice dishes,” according to Cortivo. They will also have a great fresh cocktail menu with a small but wonderful wine list – described as “a world tour.”
Look for a post-Labor Day opening. Â More details to follow as it gets closer.

Am I the only one who was kind of hoping for a local beer pub?
Wouldn’t that be great?!
We can hope for some craft beer. But word on the street is that Oinkster opening on Vine will have at least 12 taps.
