Parents, neighbors and stakeholders of John Burroughs Middle School are invited to a community meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, to discuss plans for a major upcoming modernization of the school’s facilities.

· Removal of bungalows
· Demolition and/or replacement of existing buildings
· Retrofitting buildings (for earthquake safety)
· Remodeling classrooms, cafeteria, library, etc.
· Upgrades to athletic fields
· Rehabilitation of historical buildings

The school, which was built in 1924, is the designated middle school for students attending Wilshire Park, Charles H. Kim, Hancock Park, Queen Anne, Rosewood, 3rd Street, Van Ness, West Hollywood and Wilshire Crest Elementary Schools.  Several rounds of community-funded beautification projects over the last 10 years or so have greatly improved the public face of the school, but more work remains on the aging interior facilities, which this major effort,  undertaken by the Los Angeles School District, will address.

For more information about the meeting or the modernization project, contact José De Paz, LAUSD Facilities Services Division Community Relations at (213) 241-1347 (main line) or (213) 241-1334 (direct).

The meeting will be held in the John Burroughs Multi-Purpose Room600 South Mc Cadden Place, Los Angeles, CA 90005

Also, in addition to the community meeting, LAUSD is looking for a few stakeholders to participate in a “project advisory group” for the Burroughs modernization project, which will provide input throughout the 4-6 year span of the effort.  If you’re interested in being part of that group, contact Teresa Akins at [email protected]
