Neighborhood Crime Alert on Recent Home Burglaries

LAPD Wilshire and Olympic Division Captains have contacted local neighborhood leaders at the Hancock Park Homeowners Association and the Windsor Square Association asking them to alert residents to a recent uptick in burglaries.

“We are experiencing burglaries through our division during the dinner time hours. The events share a pattern – they usually break a window at the rear of the house. Sometimes this preceded by ringing the doorbell to see if anyone is at home. We believe these burglaries are being committed by the same group of individuals. We ask that everyone leave lights and their alarm on. Please share with the community. Thank you for your help. Take care,” wrote Captain Sonia Monico from LAPD’s Wilshire Division.

Olympic Division Captain Aaron Ponce also asked neighbors to help police by “being aware of your  surroundings and contacting LAPD when something looks suspicious. For example unfamiliar cars that are idling for a long time or individuals covered up with masks/hoods/gloves. If you witness a possible crime in action please call 911.” (This was similar to advice he gave at last week’s annual meeting of the Windsor Square Association.)

In addition, both captains recommended being vigilant about checking to see that your house is secure, with doors and windows locked. Also, it’s a good idea to turn on your alarm even when you’re going to be gone for just a few minutes…and if you’re going to be out of town, alert your security company, use the vacation watch program, and be sure to report any crimes to LAPD.
