Snow Day On Larchmont Sunday, 12/10

The Buzz is pleased to support the first-ever snow day on Larchmont! Actually, that’s not exactly true, it did snow on Larchmont in 1932 but the snow wasn’t set up for sledding and playing and no one was serving hot apple cider and baked goods! And, of course, Santa wasn’t there either.

But all that’s happening next Sunday, December 10 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at the Page Academy parking lot at 565 N. Larchmont Blvd, thanks to Wilshire Rotary with support from the Rotary Foundation, the Larchmont Boulevard Association, The Beverly Press/Park La Brea News, and Adam Rubenstein, The Beaumont Company. Boy Scout Troop 10 and Larchmont Charter Interact Organization are also supporting.

“I have always wanted to do this,” said Wendy Clifford, Wilshire Rotary member organizing the Snow Day who also runs the Rotary’s Christmas Tree lot. “This year we will be giving gifts to the Red Shield and the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood, I hope to have a mountain of toys!”

Admission to Snow Day is free with an unwrapped game or toy for Santa, who will make sure it goes to a deserving family in Los Angeles.

Clifford is also organizing a raffle at the Snow Day with donations from businesses on Larchmont who are donating prizes. Thanks to Levain Bakery and Tailwaggers who have made donations. More donations are welcome, email Clifford for more information.

Proceeds from the Snow Day will go to the Rotary Charities. Last year, The Wilshire Rotary donated funds to organizations including Hope Net, Salvation Army Red Shield, Big Sunday, Operation School Bell, APD Reserve Foundation, Anderson-Munger YMCA, Van Ness Elementary Visually Impaired classes, LAUSD Teacher Mini-grants, Rise Against Hunger, Ronald McDonald House. Wilshire Rotary also makes donations to international efforts to provide a safe clean water system to 4,800 people in the village of Suam, Uganda, and Ecuador. Wilshire Rotary members participate in monthly community service projects with Food on Foot, Alexandria House, St. James Soup Kitchen, and the Hollywood Food Coalition.

Premium Christmas trees are available at the Wilshire Rotary Christmas Tree lot at 568 N. Larchmont Blvd.
