Joyce Flint, Longtime Hancock Park Resident, Passes Away

The Buzz was notified recently that Joyce Ann Flint, who lived in Hancock Park for nearly 50 years, passed away in March of this year, at the age of 83.

According to Flint’s son Michael, his mother was “one of the rarest of Californians…6th generation,” and a descendant of Pio Pico, the last governor of California under Mexican rule.

In the 1950s, according to Flint’s obituary in The Hollywood Reporter, she worked as a dress designer for Esther Williams and other stars at MGM.  And later, Michael told the Buzz, she owned Flint Realty, which was a major real estate agency in the Greater Wilshire area at the time.  She also helped start the Professional Fiduciary Association of California, an organization for court-appointed conservators.

Joyce was married for more than 50 years to Mitchell Flint,  who was a founder of the Israeli Air Force in the late 1940s, and who passed away in 2017.  (A book has been published about Mitchell’s life, and Michael, a producer, is working on a film version.)

Michael Flint said his mother’s ties to our neighborhood were long and deep. “While she often though about moving to Beverly Hills,” he said, “she loved Hancock Park, as it had a distinct feel and was a community she preferred, and thus remained here till her passing.”

Joyce Flint has been laid to rest at Hollywood Forever cemetery.  She is survived by sons Michael and Guy, and Michael’s wife Cheri.
