About the Founder

MichaelLin_headshotMannies of L.A. was started by an independent school teacher named Michael Lin. Throughout his years as a teacher, Michael noticed many children, especially in the early childhood years, were surrounded by women: female teachers, female nannies, female housekeepers, and female babysitters. Many of them were lacking a positive male role model in a crucial time of their development. So Michael decided to fill that void by creating a company that could provide all families with a positive male role model.

Michael grew up in the beautiful state of Minnesota, and attended the University of Minnesota for his undergraduate degree. After graduating, He moved to Idyllwild, California to work at AstroCamp, a year-round outdoor educational camp. It was there that Michael found his calling as an educator.

He went through Cal West Educators Placement Program, and began working as a Developmental Kindergarten teacher at The Willows Community School in 2007.

“During my time at the Willows, I attended graduate school at California State Los Angeles, and received my M.A. in Early Childhood Development,” shares Michael.

The diversity of his background, and his experience working with children as their tennis instructor, basketball coach, artistic school drama director, and established Developmental Kindergarten teacher, have provided Michael with the insight, expertise, and care that enable him to work with families and caretakers alike, to match their needs and skill sets with one another.

Mannies of L.A. Yelp Review

“I was introduced to Mannies of L.A. through a friend. At the time, our boys were getting older and our needs changed, with more emphasis on elementary school homework and outdoor activity…I have very active  boys.

Michael, the founder of the service, was very approachable, kind and thorough in his search. The first manny we met was great but didn’t meet our needs completely. The second manny we met became our full time manny. We couldn’t be happier.

I highly recommend Mannies of L.A., and choosing a male nanny in general. I love that there is another male role model in my boys’ life. Thank you, Michael, for your help with this important childcare decision. We are very happy clients.”   – Cathy B.
