With outdoor movie screenings now occurring regularly all over Los Angeles, you’d think the market might be saturated – but low and behold – it’s just going skyward.
Born in London, transplanted to New York and now dropping into LA for summer’s end, the Rooftop Film Club, opens late August above Hollywood on the rooftop of the Montalban Theater on Vine Street. The rooftop has long been used as a basketball court for Nike events, and the occasional venue for comedy shows and outdoor parties.
Organizers trump the ‘state of the art projection equipment’ and ‘high-quality wireless headphones’ will give attendees an ultimate film experience in a unique urban environment. Doors open at 6 pm serving food and drinks, with most showings starting at 8 pm. Chairs and blankets are provided but bringing in your own food or beverages is not allowed.
Screening classic, new release and cult films the line up includes favorites such as The Big Lebowski on Wed Aug 26 at 8 pm (already sold out), Clueless on Thurs the 27th, Bladerunner on Friday the 28th, and Casablanca on Tuesday, Sept 1st. See the full schedule and buy tickets on the Rooftop Film Club website.
The Rooftop Film Club is an 18+ event. Space is limited so book early and get ready for some cinema with a little attitude, and some altitude.
