Cinespia will screen The Third Man (1951) starring Orson Welles as its first outdoor film of the 2013 summer season. Bring a blanket, bottle of wine and picnic and join cinema buffs for what has become a go-to summer experience for residents of Hancock Park and Hollywood.
The Third Man has all the intrigue of a post war thriller, but surpasses the genre with a lyrical beauty and cynical humor. A gorgeous zither musical score, silvery stylized photography, and the shattered majesty of post-war Vienna serving as the backdrop. Starring a young Orson Welles who famously improvised dialogue and ‘suggested’ direction for his scenes, and enigmatic Italian movie star Alida Valli as the fragile and gorgeous heartbroken lover. The chase scene in the tunnels beneath the city, and the cemetery showered in autumn leaves are images that will haunt you for a lifetime. The film won the Oscar for cinematography. Â
