The Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council (GWNC) will present discussions on two important topics at its monthly meeting tomorrow evening, Wednesday, August 8 at 6:30 pm at the Ebell of Los Angeles in the Theatre. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
First, at 6:30 pm there will be a town hall discussion on “The Hard Facts About Soft Stories: An Earthquake Preparedness Town Hall.” The presentation will review what tenants and landlords need to know about now-required seismic retrofitting in our area. Panelists include a seismic engineer, an apartment manager, and a tenant advocate.
Topics include:
- What is a soft story building?
- What is the threat during a catastrophic earthquake?
- Is my building on “the list”? Is there a deadline?
- Will I have to move?
- What is the cost to landlords? To tenants?
Following the town hall, as part of the monthly GWNC board meeting, officials from LADWP and City Council Member David Ryu’s office will also be on hand to talk about the recent power outages in the neighborhood and efforts to prevent future outages.
Free parking is available in the large lot on the west side of the building; please enter the lot from 8th St., at the south end of the Ebell complex.
