On Friday, January 30, the Wilshire Crest Elementary School PTA will host “Jazzed About Music” a gala fundraiser to benefit the school’s music program. The event, which begins at 7 pm in the school’s auditorium at 5241 W. Olympic Blvd., will illustrate the value of music, and music education, throughout students’ lives.
The program kicks off with a performances by the Wilshire Crest orchestra, where the children are just beginning their musical journeys. Â The elementary school musicians will be followed by student ensembles from John Burroughs Middle School and L.A. High School…to show how students’ musical experience grows through their years in our neighborhood schools. And then, to remind everyone that music is a lifelong gift that doesn’t end when you graduate, two professional groups will take the stage: Facing West, a smooth jazz ensemble featuring two Wilshire Crest alumni…and Banana Like, a salsa group led by a Wilshire Crest parent. Â Guests will be able to dance to the latter two groups.
This is a grown-up, adult-only event…though child care is available (in the form of a pajama-movie party, supervised by staff from the L.A.’s Best after-school program) for Wilshire Crest students. Adult tickets are $10 in advance, and can be purchased at the drop-off gate in the school’s Olympic Blvd. parking lot from 7:45-8:30 a.m. every day this week…or will also be available at the door on Friday evening for $15. Child care tickets are also $10 (or 3 for $20). (Child care reservations must be made in advance; no walk-ins allowed.)
All money raised will go to the Wilshire Crest music program. Â Funds will be used for much-needed repairs to the school’s student instruments, and to purchase expendable items such as strings and reeds.
