One of the most historic homes in Fremont Place is on the market for the first time since in 2006. The stunning, historic mansion was built in 1915 for Martin Henry Mosier, and designed by architect John C. Austin.
Locally, the home is most well known to neighbors as the former mansion of Muhammad Ali, who lived there from there from 1979 to 1986. We wrote about how he was remembered by local residents in Fremont Place when he passed away in 2016.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the current residents are downsizing. The price is $16.999 million.
“Sitting on about 1½ acres, the mansion dates back to 1916, and was designed by John C. Austin, an architect known for his involvement in several landmark buildings such as Griffith Observatory and Los Angeles City Hall. It has stained glass windows by Louis Comfort Tiffany, original stone fireplaces, wood paneling and dramatic chandeliers. Roughly 14,500 square feet, it has seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
The property is in the gated community of Fremont Place, known for its historic mansions. Other residents of the approximately 70-house community have included King C. Gillette, founder of the company now known as Gillette who built a home there in the early 1900s. A.P. Giannini, founder of the company that became Bank of America , also lived there, according to the homeowners association,” reported the WSJ.
Local realtor Anne Loveland told the Buzz that the house will be open for real estate professionals and their clients this coming Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., along with another historic home Loveland is showing at 72 Fremont. The owner of 72 Fremont recalled how Ali would came to that home to perform magic tricks for the children in the finished basement/billiard room.
