The traditional May crowning of the statue of Mary  on the front steps of St Brendan School occurred this Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the school on Manhattan Place.
Bringing vases full of flowers, many picked fresh from gardens across the greater Hancock Park area, the students and faculty of St. Brendan met in the morning sunshine to pay their devotions to the “Queen of May” in the Catholic tradition.
“We’ve had this lovely tradition for over twenty years now at St. Brendan School,” Sister Maureen O’Connor, Principal of the school told the Larchmont Buzz. The eighth graders planned the event, the 2nd graders wore their First Communion clothing, and two songs were sung, including ” Hail Holy Queen” and “The Lourdes Hymn (Immaculate Mary)” by the 305 students at St. Brendan School.
All under the purple snow of the street’s blooming jacarandas.
