Election Update: Increasing Leads for Bass, Yaroslavsky, Soto-Martinez and Horvath

Election results updated Saturday afternoon show (l-r) Congresswoman Karen Bass, Katy Young Yaroslavsky, Hugo-Soto Martinez and Lindsey Horvath continuing to lead their opponents in their respective races

Congresswoman Karen Bass is now leading developer Rick Caruso by 9,463 votes in the Los Angeles mayoral race, according to updated election results released late Saturday afternoon by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC). Bass’s lead has continued to increase as more votes are tallied, even though Caruso took an early lead on election night. County officials said there are still an estimated 739,300 ballots that remain to be counted, and officials will continue to accept ballots that are postmarked by Election Day and received by November 15, seven days after the election. The County has 30 days to certify the election.

In other races, Katy Young Yaroslavsky and Hugo Soto-Martinez both increased their leads against their opponents in our local City Council races. In CD 5, Yaroslavsky is now 15 points or 8,199 votes ahead of Sam Yebri, up from just over 5,000 votes ahead on Election night.

And in CD13, Soto-Martinez’s tally over incumbent Mitch O’Farrell has added another 750 votes, increasing his lead to 2,709 from 2,611. O’Farrell added 652 votes to his total, but he is still lagging behind. According to county officials, there are still an estimated 739,300 ballots that remain to be counted. This number is the total of county-wide ballots so it’s not clear how many would affect our local City Council district races.

Meanwhile, in the LA County Third District Board of Supervisors race, West Hollywood City Councilmember Lindsey Horvath has added to her narrow lead over State Senator Bob Hertzberg. She’s now ahead by a slim margin of 1,500, up from a 670 vote lead on Friday when she jumped ahead of Hertzberg.

Saturday’s update includes 77,429 ballots processed since Friday’s update (November 11). The total election results count is now 1,608,639, which is 28.58% of registered voters.

The estimated number of outstanding ballots to be processed is 739,300. See estimates below:

• Vote by Mail ballots (VBM): 718,000
• Conditional Voter Registration ballots: 21,000
• Provisional ballots: 300
