Starting September 28, Larchmont Charter High School will host a free intergenerational program on its campus. This program, run by the nonprofit organization Sages & Seekers, will bring together students at the school with adults over 60 years old to share their unique experiences through authentic one-on-one conversation and storytelling.

Sages & Seekers is an experiential learning program that builds meaningful relationships between Sages (adults 60+) and Seekers (students 15-24) in order to diminish ageism, combat social isolation, and build empathy. During this 7-8 week program, both generations discover commonalities and shatter stereotypes they have of one another.  Seniors who participate have the opportunity to share their life story with an interested listener and pass along the lessons they have learned in life. By listening to these stories, and ultimately writing a tribute to their Sage at the end of the program, students develop a greater appreciation of the elderly and their legacies.

Sages & Seekers has been implemented across the country in private & public schools, universities, local senior centers, and youth-serving agencies. During the pandemic, Sages & Seekers pivoted its programs online, hosting more than 60 Zoom programs that reached participants in countries as far away as Colombia, Argentina, and Australia. Sages & Seekers continues to host online sessions in addition to the in-person program at the Larchmont campus this fall.

Sages & Seekers meets at Larchmont Charter High School on Wednesdays from 2:45-4:00 pm on the following dates: Sept. 28, Oct. 12, 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16. If you are an adult age 60+ and would like to participate, please contact Rachel at [email protected] or apply on the Sages & Seekers website.
