According to NBC Los Angeles, Mayor Garcetti signed an executive directive Tuesday enforcing further water conservation measures during this drought.
Executive order calls for:
- 20 percent reduction in the city’s fresh water use by 2017
- 50 percent cut in the amount of imported water purchased by the Department of Water and Power by 2024
To reach goals, Garcetti proposed the following:
- treating groundwater
- capturing and storing stormwater
- using recycled water
- employing conservation strategies
- creating “green” infrastructure
Mayor Garcetti also ordered city departments to limit watering to two days a week and asked that residents do the same.
According to the Windsor Square Association, the Getty House will be installing drought tolerant landscape this fall.
