Family owned and operated Majestic Time Piece relocated the 46 year-old business to Larchmont in late 2019. Locals, who were used to finding the shop in the Original Farmers Market, were just getting familiar with the new location on Larchmont when the pandemic forced them and forced many of our local small businesses to close a year ago.
This week, we finally got over to the shop to meet the owners in their second floor space at 419 N. Larchmont Blvd., where Melkon Baghdasasaryan, who goes by “Mike,” and his son Vartan offer professional jewelry and watch repair.
Majestic Time Piece traces its roots to Baghdasasaryan’s relatives John and Virginia Berberian, who opened Majestic Jewelry at the Town and Country Shopping Center at 3rd and Fairfax in 1976. At the age of 26, Berberian left Bulgaria to escape communism. Three years later he convinced the love of his life, Virginia, to leave Bulgaria as well and make a life in Los Angeles. Together, they owned and operated Majestic, eventually moving to the Original Farmers Market. Baghdasasaryan came to Los Angeles in 1990 (he remembers it was July 4th) and joined his cousin’s business, eventually taking over.

Through mutual friends, Baghdasasaryan learned that Hans Custom Optik was closing its shop, after owner Hans Fiebig retired at the age of 90. After seeing the space, Baghdasasaryan decided to take it, since it offered much more visibility than their old second floor space at the Original Farmers Market.

Majestic Time Piece is a true family affair. Baghdasasaryan’s daughter Mary, a make up artist, also operates her business Flawless Faces by Mary, Â in a small office inside her family’s jewelry shop. She also created her dad’s website, and her mom, Seta, helps out with marketing.
Majestic Time Piece can repair all types of jewelry in addition to repairing watches, even eye glass repair too. They also sell jewelry and vintage watches.
