Larchmont Business Owner Cheri Moon Nominated for Best Children’s Album Grammy

Local business owner and recording artist Cheri Moon was nominated for her first Grammy for “All One Tribe,” a collaboration album for Best Children’s Music Album. Moon, owner of Snooknuk, the now-closed children’s play center on N. Larchmont, has been honored by the recording academy in the past. Her second album was submitted by peers and almost made it through the final round of voting a couple of years ago. This time, “All One Tribe,” featuring more than twenty-six artists from all over the world, made it all way to the final nomination slate. And though she didn’t win the Grammy, it was still an incredible honor to be recognized for her work.

“No, I didn’t bring home the trophy this time, but scored some wonderful press and pick up on the Red Carpet!,” said Moon in an email to the Buzz today. Moon shared that she was featured on Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Allure, People Magazine, E-News, CBS, BBC and even as the Best Dressed Artist arriving for the Grammys this year.

“Snooknuk was also sponsored by a local business, Annie & Sisters, a women-owned jewelry company that promotes positivity for girls!” said Moon. She wrote and produced an original song and commercial campaign for a the jewelry line designed for tween girls called “Inside of You” for Annie & Sisters collection.

“Through their generosity, Snooknuk was able to bring several local teen dancers to perform for the pre-Grammy’s show!” said Moon. “All of this makes the weekend and being nominated a WIN!”

Moon started her career as a singer and song writer of popular music working with a variety of artists. Once she had children, she started teaching music classes at the Page Private School and other local preschools. In fact, that’s what inspired her to create Snooknuk, the popular children’s play center on Larchmont featuring toddler music classes, yoga and dance. It was open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and parents could drop in for play dates or sign up for classes to meet other parents and make friends. She even added a little cafe, getting a food and beverage license for the space, so parents could grab a frozen yogurt and other light fare for their kids or themselves. Her daughters now 11 and 15 are responsible for the name – Snooknuk.

“It was a nickname I called them when they were babies,” Moon told the Buzz.

Snooknuk attracted many of the biggest stars in music and film, including Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Jay Z, Kanye West, Drew Barrymore, Zoe Saldana, Jason Bateman, Kelly Rowland, Scarlett Johansen, Tig Notaro and more. Destiny’s Child even re-united at Snooknuk for a video challenge that went viral.

After six years on Larchmont, Moon was sad when the pandemic forced her to close her otherwise successful business. She’d even considered marketing the idea as a franchise. Unfortunately, all the uncertainty of the pandemic and a lack of an outdoor performance space forced her to abandon those plans, but she never abandoned her music career. In fact, she realized she now has more time to create music programs for kids and record more  music. Over the years, Moon has developed a following, collaborating with other artists to produce positive, uplifting children’s music.

During the pandemic, Moon began collaborating with likeminded artists on Zoom. The efforts resulted in the Grammy-nominated album and her song “We’re All the Same” has come to symbolize that body of work.

“I really wanted to target issues kids are facing, social awareness, racism, community,” explained Moon. “We are all one, tribe, living on a planet. We can work together to make our lives better and it starts with inspiring our children to change the world.”
