Community Police Academy Now Accepting Registrations

Starting on January 26, The Los Angeles Police Department Operations-West Bureau will be conducting a Community Police Academy for residents of our local neighborhoods.

The eleven-week course will be held on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, 6505 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, 90048, and will conclude with a graduation ceremony on April 5, 2016.

Topics will include an overview of the LAPD and its organization, criminal law and laws of arrest, DUI and traffic policy, the role of Internal Affairs, field trips to the LAPD Communications Division and Air Support and other special departments, crime scene and homicide investigations, use of force, firearms training simulators, LAPD hiring, Miranda Rights, pursuit policies…and much more.

The goal is for citizens to get to know LAPD better and to build stronger relationships between LAPD and the communities it serves.

The class is free.  Interested community members must meet the following criteria:

 Must be 18 years or older;

 Live or work in Operations-West Bureau;

 No prior felony convictions;

 No outstanding warrants;

 No pending criminal cases; and

 Must be approved by an Area Commanding Officer.
