Calling All Women Playwrights!

Play Contest Judges, 1928
From the Bulletin of The Ebell of Los Angeles:
Volume One, Number One

The Ebell of Los Angeles is returning to its theatrical roots. The women’s club, which last held a playwriting contest in 1928, has just launched a new contest open to women playwrights in California. Deadline for entry to the Ebell of Los Angeles Playwright Prize is December 30, 2013.

The Ebell believes there is a dire need for more women playwrights to have their work read and produced. Only 17 % of produced plays are written by women. The Ebell of Los Angeles Playwright Prize hopes to contribute toward increasing that number.

The winning playwright will receive a $6,000 prize and a reading at the Ebell on May 4, 2014.

The contest’s stellar group of judges and advisors includes:

Jeanie Hackett
Jane Kaczmarek
Kamala Lopez
Annie Potts
Ellen Sandler
Susan Sullivan
Advisory Board
Allison Janney
Jessica Kubzansky
Micahel Learned
Laurie Metcalf
Laurie Scheer
Peregrine Whittlesey
