Are you interested in learning more about current issues facing older and historic neighborhoods in Los Angeles, such as sustainability, mansionization, and teardowns? The Office of Historic Resources and the Los Angeles Conservancy are hosting their one-day forum on neighborhood preservation right here in Windsor Village, Saturday, October 18,2014: the L.A. Historic Neighborhoods Conference.
The theme of this year’s day-long event is “Sustainable Practices.” After a kick-off talk by author and preservationist Lisa See (Shanghai Girls, China Dolls)Â and urban planning consultant Nore Winter, three morning sessions will be offered on topics including sustainability, the basics of HPOZs and the Recode LA and Survey LA projects underway by the City of LA.
Over lunch the annual HPOZ Awards Ceremony will salute people and projects of the past year that have made an impact on historic preservation in Los Angeles. Wilshire Park’s own Robby O’Donnell will be honored for her work as a community organizer creating the Boulevard Heights National Register District on South Bronson.
Guided walking tours of the three Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (HPOZs) close to the event venue will take place in the afternoon, with participants choosing one of three tours: Windsor Village, Wilshire Park or Country Club Park.
