LA Zoo Announces ‘It’s Cool at the Zoo’ – Cool Activities to Beat the Heat

Summer may be officially over, but September can be a scorcher in Los Angeles! To help L.A. families keep their cool despite the heat, the L.A. Zoo is hosting “It’s Cool at the Zoo,” a series of engaging and fun programs taking place every weekend in September. Many of the Zoo’s animals have their own special tricks for beating the heat, so visit the L.A. Zoo and learn how to cool down and chill out from nature’s experts!

For every weekend in September, the L.A. Zoo has a wide variety of special activities scheduled, including watching the animals as they enjoy their own beat-the-heat fun, painting a mural with the Mobile Mural Lab, seeing an ice sculpture come to life, or taking a break in the Zoo’s air-conditioned auditorium with screenings of “Chuggington.” All activities are free with zoo admission.

Cool at the Zoo Program Highlights by Weekend

Chillin’ with LAFD Firefighters | Saturday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Nobody knows how to keep their cool better than firefighters! Meet the men and women of the Los Angeles City Fire Department and explore a genuine LAFD fire truck in Selig Plaza, where firefighters will demonstrate how they keep cool in hot situations. (Think WATER!)

Shake it Up! With Radio Disney | Saturday, Sept. 14, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

What’s cooler than a dance party? A dance party with Radio Disney at the L.A. Zoo! In additional to cool tunes and moves, the party will also include arts and crafts, themed activities.

Disney Junior Stars | Sunday, Sept. 15, 11a.m.-1 p.m.

Meet the stars of Disney Junior! Princess Sofia and Jake and the Neverland Pirates will lead the day’s festivities, with arts and crafts, themed activities, and prizes.

In addition to the Radio Disney Fun, the Zoo also has a wide variety of special activities scheduled for this weekend, including watching the animals as they enjoy their own beat-the-heat treat, painting a mural with the Mobile Mural Lab, seeing an ice sculpture come to life, or taking a break in the Zoo’s air-conditioned auditorium with screenings of “Chuggington.”

All activities are free with GLAZA membership and Zoo admission.

National Geographic Great Nature Project | Saturday, Sept. 19 – Sunday, Sept. 27

From Saturday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 27, including last two weekends of the month, the L.A. Zoo has partnered up with National Geographic to be a host for The Great Nature Project, a worldwide celebration of the planet and its wonders. The L.A. Zoo welcomes people of all ages to participate in this wonderful project by coming to the Zoo to take pictures of our amazing animals and abundant native plant life, and then share those pictures with the whole world. The Great Nature Project’s goal is to create a global snapshot of the Earth’s incredible biodiversity—and try for a Guinness World Records® title for the largest-ever online album of animal photos! How cool is that?
