Students of all ages, from preschool through graduate school, are missing out on in-person graduation ceremonies this year, but schools and other organizations are coming up with innovative ways to address that loss of a major rite of passage. We’re talking to some of our local schools to find out how they’re celebrating their graduates (and if you’ve got info to share about a specific school, please let us know!)…but in the meantime, culminating high school students all across the country are invited to “Graduate Together” tonight – Saturday, May 16 – at 5 p.m. Pacific Time. The event will be televised on ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC TV, as well as “multiple online platforms,” including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. The event is sponsored and organized by XQ in partnership with The LeBron James Family Foundation and The Entertainment Industry Foundation. And the commencement speaker will be a pretty big name — former U.S. President Barack Obama.
The program will also feature remarks and performances from other celebrities – including the Jonas Brothers, Bad Bunny, Pharrell Williams, Malala Yousafzai, Megan Rapinoe, Lena Waithe, Ben Platt, Yara Shahidi, Chika, YBN Cordae, Loren Gray, H.E.R., Brandan Bmike Odums, and Charli D’Amelio – as well as pictures and stories submitted by graduating seniors, parents and educators around the country. (You can make your own submissions through forms on the Graduate Together website.)
