A garden makeover of a South Lucerne property owned by writer Whitney Friedlander and True Blood producer Alex Woo was featured on the Gardenista blog last week and it’s fun to poke around in the before-and-after photos to see the transformation.
Landscape designer Naomi Sanders was challenged to modernize the formally planted and gridded  “parterres” (yes – those divided planted beds often seen in formal European gardens) to give it a cleaner, less cluttered look. Sanders worked with what was there, changing some of the hardscape, and planting in only three colors – red, green and white.
As a former sculptor, and interior designer and a graduate student of Landscape Architecture at USC,  Sanders has been working in the Hancock Park and Silver Lake areas since 2008 designing residential landscapes that are “sustainable, thoughtfully and artistically designed.” She is currently working on two projects in Hancock Park, one Traditional and the other Mediterranean in style, with both projects utilizing sustainable, drought tolerant plants and materials.
