A few days ago, the IRS announced that it was postponing the deadline for federal income tax payments by 90 days, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The tax filing date, however, remained April 15. This morning, however, both the U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and the California Franchise Tax Board issued announcements that both federal and state tax filing and payment deadlines will now be postponed until July 15, with no penalties.
Officials urged people who do expect tax refunds to file before the deadline, however, to make sure their checks arrive as quickly as possible.
