The news of Henry Waxman retiring from Congressional District 33 after 40 years has given way to a flood of candidates bidding for the job as U.S. Representative to the west side – Â what the New York Times calls the Botox Belt – the district that includes Malibu, Palos Verdes, Beverly Hills – and a swath of Hancock Park.
The recent New York Times article disparagingly titled  The Real House Candidates of Beverly Hills  briefly looks at the variety of candidates currently in the game for the 33rd district, including former City Controller Wendy Greuel, self-help guru Marianne Williamson, KCRW’s Matt Miller, State Senator Ted Lieu, and Hollywood Producer Brent Roske.
With media gearing up to cover the 18 candidates already in the running,  it may be time to ask: do I live in the 33rd District? Given the crazy patchwork of gerrymandered congressional districts in Southern California, it is fascinating to see that four districts converge in our local area. With borders running along Rosewood and Melrose on the north, down Plymouth and Crenshaw in the middle section, and split north/south along parts of Wilshire, it truly is a crazy map that divides our neighborhood into four districts with six corners.  Talk about confusing.
To find out exactly where your home sits in the Congressional cut-up, enter your address at Find Your Representative where you’ll find your district and your elected Representative in Congress. We’ve included an image with the four districts color coded for quick reference below, but best to check your individual address online via the link above to know exactly which district you live in.
