In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Ebell of Los Angles Scholarship Fund in her honor. Carroll served as chair of the Ebell Scholarship Committee as one of her first areas in involvement at the Ebell. She became involved in many other club activities and served as president from 1998-2000.

Education was important to Carroll, who started her career as a classroom teacher in Oklahoma after attending Emporia State Teachers College, now Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. The Carrolls were married for more than twenty years before they divorced.

After she retired from teaching, Carroll became an active member of the Ebell of Los Angeles in 1981.  Shortly after she joined the club, her mother,Lilian Mobley, joined. Currently, her daughter Charlon Franke and granddaughter Gloria Franke Shaw are also members, making four generations of family members of the Ebell.  Carroll’s step-daughter, Patricia Carroll, is also a member.

Carroll was an avid tennis player, who played weekly at the Los Angeles Tennis Club, where she was a member. She was also a member of the Wilshire Country Club. Carroll was active in the Hancock Park Windsor Square Historical Society, the Needlework Guild of America, Library; she worked with civic leaders to curb the sale of spray paint to minors and volunteered for the 1984 Olympics, working on spectator safety for the Red Cross. She was also active in the society of public educators. Carroll was recognized for her service to the community by the Larchmont Chronicle as a “Woman of Larchmont” in 2000.
