Hancock Park Singer/Songwriter Alex Beck

Hancock Park singer/songwriter Alex Beck can be found on Spotify.

Recently we had the opportunity to interview local young singer/songwriter Alex Beck as she’s starting her musical career. Beck, who grew up in Hancock Park,  recently graduated from Berklee College of Music, but due to the pandemic, she finished her senior year at home. Though the timing turned out to be beneficial because it gave Beck a chance to get started professionally ahead of graduation.

Beck began her musical journey as a fourth grader at Campbell Hall, singing in talent shows, taking music lessons and writing songs. Beck recalls being immersed in music from a young age. Thanks to her parents, her dad who dad listened to classic rock — The Rolling Stones, The Beatles — and her mom, who loved Madonna and other ’80s pop stars, Beck has developed her own style that blends pop and rock elements together into alternative pop. Beck described her music as having a top layer of dreaminess through vocal effects. She told us that she’s been inspired by Taylor Swift and singer/songwriter Lorde, who really got her focused on lyrics.

Recently Beck told us she has been begun recording her own songs with producer Justin Lucas, who she met last summer through family friends.

“I go into the studio every week recording songs,” explained Beck. She is building up a library of songs forming an LP  that she hopes to release at the end of year.

Beck told us that uses her cell phone to take notes and record melodies when she’s writing a song because ideas for songs and melodies often occur at most random times. Her creative process is different for every song but she works on writing every day.

It’s not easy to be a creative artist but Beck has a strategy.

“I am working at it everyday, writing a song, or playing piano, making a TikTok video, and working out helps keeps me positive,” said Beck.

You can find her at AlexBeckMusic on Tic Tok Instagram and Spotify.
