I love bread. The flaky, fluffy, yeasty, nutty, crispy and crusty kind of bread. Best when warmed in the oven, pulled apart, topped with cheese, preserves, or nothing at all. There is one issue. I missed my Farmer’s Market this week. Enter The Secret Goldfish Baking Company.
The Secret Goldfish Baking Company delivers homemade bread directly to the Hancock Park area and it’s surroundings. There’s the milkman, and now the “breadman” (and woman). What started out as an informal homemade bread delivery service to friends and family has now sprouted into a full-time business that has stayed true to it’s mission. Molly and Michael, owners of The Secret Goldfish, believe that “baking carefully handcrafted loaves with the finest ingredients and delivering them personally to our customers creates a special communal experience for those who love bread and appreciate the wonderful way in which it brings people together”.
The Secret Goldfish use only organic, Fair Trade, and locally grown ingredients, 100% post consumer recycled paper for their tags and composted food waste for their community garden. They even deliver by Vespa or Prius. Now that’s putting the dough back into the community.
The delivery menu has a solid selection to choose from. In the mood for a moist Quick Bread of Zucchini, Carrot or Pumpkin to have with your morning coffee? Or, a Cozy Whole Wheat and Oat bread to top with butter and jam? You can even have Semolina Sandwich bread on hand for kid’s lunches. Breads that work well for entertaining are the Salt and Sage Focaccia, a perfect partner for Bolognese. Or, the Rosemary & Kalamata Boule, their best seller, made with organic fresh rosemary and marinated olives. I drizzle olive oil on top, grill and then top with goat cheese or ricotta. The Angels Flight Biscuits, named for the famous Los Angeles landmark, are flaky and super fluffy. Serve them with a stew or soup. Not using the breads right away? Just slice and put in the freezer.
The Secret Goldfish has tapped into the dessert department and is now making Homemade Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Classic Chocolate Chip and Snickerdoodles . I keep them in the freezer for constant picking or eat them fresh right away.
Never fret over a missed Farmer’s Market again. Ding, dong, delivery.
Note: The Secret Goldfish Baking Company will be starting up home deliveries again in October. Orders must be placed online by Monday at 5:00 pm for Thursday delivery.
