Friends of Brookside is hosting its sixth annual Outdoor Movie Night this Saturday, September 27, 2014. Families and friends will gather in Memorial Park (4625 Olympic Blvd in front of the Memorial Library)  around 6pm for a BYO picnic. A grill with red-hot coals will be available for those who want to barbecue.
Randy Haberkamp, Managing Director of Programming, Education and Preservation for the Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is a Brookside denizen and has used his encyclopedic knowledge of old films to make recommendations for the screening. Expect to see old cartoons, comedy shorts and black and white silent movies, many 70 to 100 years old and some filmed in the Hancock Park / Miracle area. Films will start screening around 7:15pm.
As a special treat again this year, Mr. Michael Mortilla, a very well-known composer in silent film circles, will provide live musical accompaniment to the silent films. If you’re old enough to watch cartoons, you’re old enough to enjoy Movie Night! Open to all residents in the greater Wilshire area.
