LAPD Celebrates the Holidays

‘Tis the season to be merry, and to help make sure that all of our area residents have an opportunity to celebrate.  As usual, our Los Angeles Police Department is holding several events this holiday season to extend a warm holiday welcome and help make sure that everyone in our community has something to celebrate.

First up, tonight, at the Wood Ranch Grill at the Farmer’s Market, our Wilshire Division officers will hold a “Tip a Cop” event, in which they’ll work as guest servers, with the tips they receive going to support Special Olympics athletes in the Greater Los Angeles area.  Hours are 5 to 9 p.m, some come out for some good food, fun and a great cause..

Next week, on Wednesday, December 6, LAPD’s Olympic Division will hold its annual holiday potluck at the Olympic station – 1130 S. Vermont – from 6 to 7:30 p.m.  Community members are invited to attend and bring your favorite holiday dish or dessert to share.  You can meet your Olympic division captains and senior lead officers, get to know your neighbors and celebrate the holiday spirit.

On Saturday, December 16, Olympic Division will also hold its its annual Shoes from Santa event, which provides hundreds of new pairs of shoes to area children who need them.  The event starts at 11 a.m. at the Olympic station, where Santa will distribute the shoes to pre-selected children…but community members are invited to drop off a pair of shoes any time between now and the event…or contact your Senior Lead Officer if you’d like them to pick up a donation.  You can also make a monetary donation to the event at this link.  All donations are tax deductible; LAPD’s tax ID number is 26-3898882.

And finally, back in Wilshire Division, there’s another opportunity to bring a smile to a deserving neighborhood child for the holidays, with a toy drive that is running from now until December 18.   Just drop off new, unwrapped toys at the Wilshire Station – 4861 W. Venice Blvd., 90016, – before the deadline, and LAPD will distribute them to area children in need.
